NBA-NEC: Meeting Holds At Zero Cost To Association, 2022 TCCP Dissolved, Lawyers To Notify NBA Employment Bureau Of Job Applications [DETAILS/PHOTOS]

The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mr. Yakubu Maikyau, OON, SAN, has asked that the NBA Employment Bureau be notified by members of the Bar who have successfully submitted applications for employment to various Law Enforcement Agencies

Maikyau who made this announcement at the ongoing meeting of the NBA National Executive Council (NBA-NEC) holding in Kebbi State said that the NBA has been began talks with the leadership of various security agencies to ensure the engagement of lawyers into law enforcement agencies, in order to ensure greater compliance with the rule of law by these agencies.

This move is in line with the fulfilment of the NBA President’s manifesto promise to establish an Employment Bureau charged with the responsibility of interfacing with Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) both at the Federal, State and Local Government levels, including the Armed Forces, Police and other paramilitary organisations, to seek placements for lawyers.

Also at the meeting, the 2022 Technical Committee on Conference Planning, headed by Mr Mr Tobenna Erojikwe was dissolved while the National Treasurer of the Nigerian Bar Association, Caroline Anze-Bishop in delivering her report, apologized to members for any glitch or challenge in paying their 2023 Bar Practicing Fees and assured that same is being worked on.

A NEC member, Hannatu Dauda in her observation at the meeting, regretted the recent situation where young lawyers went to the social media to insult the President of the NBA, for statements made by him which were solely based on the report of the NBA election monitoring group/observers. She noted that, in doing so these lawyers skirted over the President’s comments on infractions which amounted to violations of the electoral law and focused instead on a single comment about the elections going well. She urged members of the NEC as senior members of the Bar, to provide guidance to our younger colleagues to take a balanced view on issues otherwise this would spell doom for the profession.

The Metro Lawyer (TML) reports that this time, the NEC meeting was held at zero cost to the Nigerian Bar Association. Also, both statutory and co-opted NEC members were offered accommodation, as against the usual convention of making rooms available for only statutory members.

Members who cancelled their Azman Air flights had the cost cleared, while members who flew Max Air in place of Azman Air did so at no cost to them.

Ever the perfect host, the NBA President who is an indigene of Kebbi State, left Kebbi for Sokoto to welcome NEC members whose flights were en route Sokoto. He then led the members back to Kebbi and hosted them to a sumptuous meal upon arrival.
