2023 Election: DSS, Military Clear Criminals’ Hideouts

Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the Department of State Services (DSS) and personnel of the Nigerian Army have begun clampdown and arrest of criminal elements across the country.

The DSS on Wednesday recovered dangerous weapons including a gun, daggers, swords, and jack-knives from a property along Airport Road, Nasarawa Local Government Area (LGA) of Kano state.

This newspaper also gathered that no fewer than 60 political thugs were arrested in the state on Thursday after hoodlums violently attacked supporters of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

The DSS in a statement by its spokesman, Peter Afunanya, warned that any person or group of persons that engage in any form of violence leading to breakdown of law and order will be severely dealt with.

Part of the statement reads: “As you are aware, the general elections will commence on 25th February, 2023-just a few hours from now.

“The DSS assures of its commitment to a peaceful exercise. It pledges its neutrality, professionalism and good conduct of its personnel to the democratic process.

“It will continue to discharge its mandate of disseminating timely, actionable and proactive intelligence necessary for tactical, operational and strategic decisions even beyond the elections.”
